Itinerary

Early Morning Departure & Boat Ride

The day starts early as you board a comfortable boat at the port of San Cristóbal. It’s about a 1.5 to 2-hour ride to Española, during which you can enjoy the stunning ocean views and watch for marine life, such as dolphins or seabirds soaring overhead. You’ll be briefed by your guide on what to expect during the adventure and the unique species you’ll encounter.

Arrival at Punta Suárez

The first stop on Española is Punta Suárez, one of the best sites in the Galápagos for observing wildlife. Here, you’ll embark on a guided hike (approx. 2 hours) along a rocky trail that leads through lava formations and coastal cliffs. Along the way, you'll encounter a variety of incredible wildlife:

  • Waved albatross (seasonal): Española is the only island where the majestic waved albatross breeds. Between April and December, you can witness these large seabirds engage in their unique courtship rituals.
  • Blue-footed boobies: Watch these iconic birds perform their charming mating dance or observe them nesting along the rocky shores.
  • Nazca boobies: These seabirds are a common sight on the island, often seen tending to their nests or gliding over the cliffs.
  • Marine iguanas: Española’s marine iguanas are unique, with a red and green coloration that stands out compared to other islands.
  • Sea lions: You’ll also come across playful sea lions lounging on the beach or swimming near the shore.

Snorkeling at Gardner Bay

After the hike, the boat will take you to the beautiful Gardner Bay, a white-sand beach perfect for snorkeling and relaxing. Snorkeling gear is provided, and the waters around Española offer some of the best snorkeling experiences in the Galápagos. You’ll have the chance to:

  • Swim with sea turtles, eagle rays, and vibrant schools of fish.
  • Get up close to playful sea lions who are known to interact with snorkelers.
  • Spot reef sharks and other marine species in the crystal-clear waters.
  • Observe the colorful underwater world, including coral formations and unique marine life endemic to the Galápagos.

For those who prefer to stay onshore, you can relax on the powdery white beach of Gardner Bay, enjoy birdwatching (with finches and mockingbirds frequently seen), or take a stroll along the peaceful shoreline.

Lunch on Board & Leisure Time

After snorkeling, enjoy a freshly prepared lunch aboard the boat as you soak in the beautiful surroundings. You’ll have some time to relax on the boat, take in the sea breeze, and enjoy the stunning views of Española’s coastline before heading back to San Cristóbal.

Return to San Cristóbal

After a memorable day of exploration and wildlife encounters, the boat departs for San Cristóbal, with an estimated arrival in the late afternoon. It’s the perfect time to reflect on your incredible experience and perhaps spot more marine life on the return journey.
